Bhoothathankettu Dam


Bhoothathankettu Dam is situated 10 kms away from Kothamangalam town and also 50 kms away from Cochin in a village called Pindimana. It attracts a large number of tourists every year. Large blocks of stones placed on both sides of the Periyar River form the dam. The name “Bhoothathan Kettu,” means Monster Dam. It was believed to have been built by a Bhootham (monster). Bhootatankettu is situated near the Salim Ali Bird Santuary 10 km away from the town of Kothamangalam and 50 km away from the main city of Ernakulam.

The Idamalayar Reservoir is about 12 km away. The scenic dam site is situated in a vast virgin forest and those interested may make use of the wonderful boating facilities. Trekking through the forests here is an exhilarating experience. The nearest railway station is at Ernakulam junction, about 50 km away. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, about 26 km from Ernakulam town.
